What are the Hunting Laws and Regulations in Kansas?

The Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism of Kansas conserves and promotes fishing, hunting and wildlife resources through management, education and scientific research. When hunting seasons begin in Kansas, all hunters must have a valid hunting license along with a other required permits depending on the hunted specie; anyone born on or after July 1, 1957, must complete an approved hunter education course before hunting in Kansas. It is unlawful to hunt without landowner’s permission as well as hunting being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is also unlawful to sell wild game meat or kill or shoot-at any game without the intention of retrieving it. No hunter in Kansas shall shoot near occupied buildings, shoot across public roads, and/or hunt in a powered-on vehicle as well as use any aircraft as an aid to locate wild game.

KANSAS WHITE-TAIL DEER Hunt

The Kansas white-tailed deer is the most hunted game animal in Kansas. To have a successful hunt during the white-tailed deer season, all hunters must have a Kansas hunting license and a deer tag. Hunters shall only hunt one (1) deer per white-tail hunting season. All firearms and bow hunters are required to wear at least 200 square inches of fluorescent orange/pink from their head, chest and back, visible from all sides.

Kansas Teal Hunt

Teal hunting, similar to duck hunting, in Kansas is very popular. All hunters must have a valid Kansas state hunting license, Kansas HIP Stamp, State Waterfowl Stamp, and a Federal Waterfowl Stamp. No hunter shall exceed the daily limit of 6 birds with 18 in possession.

Kansas Wild Turkey Hunt

When hunting turkey in Kansas, in addition to your turkey permit and tag, you MUST have a Kansas hunting license, unless exempt by Kansas Law. Any resident or nonresident hunter may purchase a Kansas turkey permit valid in units 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. Each hunter may obtain no more than one turkey permit. Fall turkey permits are valid for both male and female turkeys. Kansas hunting dogs may be used in fall season.

 Kansas hunters must tag the turkey with a carcass tag once killed.
